CNN.com - Armstrong: Mars trip will be easier - Sep 6, 2005: "KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- Neil Armstrong said Tuesday that a human expedition to Mars won't happen for at least 20 years, but might be easier than the trip that made him the first person to step onto the moon in 1969."

I certainly hope I am alive to see a landing on Mars. I can only imagine how amazing it would be to experience, even as an observer back on Earth.

Strangely enough, I am in Canada today. Markham, which seems to be a suburb (of a type) of Toronto.

I thought I might be downtown again this time, but no.

Also, on a personal note, it is good to see Neil Armstrong publicly commenting on the space program. While he is entitled to do as he likes, I've always thought it was a shame he chose to shy away from public spotlight.

There are so many that deserve NONE of the spotlight, but get plenty of it. It's really too bad that Neil made the choice he did. How many people can identify him on sight? And this is the first man to walk on the moon. Buzz Aldrin has certainly been no stranger to fame.

I think Neil could have drummed up a lot of enthusiasm for the space program in the 'lean' years post-Apollo. But, again, it was not his job to do so.
